Tucked in the mountains of Lyons, Colorado, we are a small farm dedicated to connecting people to their food, their environment, and each other. We raise our sheep, pigs, chickens, and turkeys with intention to improve our soils while providing the community with nutrient-dense food and a beautiful place to learn about regenerative agriculture.
About the Farmers
We are Ryan Muglia and Taylor Sanders, two farmers who are (perhaps too) excited about what we do.
Taylor is from the endless suburbia of Mesa, Arizona. She studied Sustainable Plant Systems at the University of Arizona where she was convinced that farm animals were ruining the planet, so she was vegetarian for about 5 years. Much of her inspiration to work in sustainable agriculture came from a student-run compost operation she worked on during this time. It was there that she learned how to utilize massive amounts of food waste to create nutrient-rich compost that put carbon and life back into soil. And from then, it was all about soil and learning to utilize animals to increase soil and animal health. She followed farming jobs from Boulder to Italy to Basalt to Patagonia and back to Longmont to learn, learn, learn all she could about raising livestock and growing vegetables in a regenerative way. Long Table Farmstead is the brainchild of many daydreams while walking pastures and weeding carrot beds. She is extremely thankful for all of her mentors along the way, for a very supportive family, for her large straw hat, and for the opportunity to start her own farm in such a special place.
Ryan is Michigan born and raised, but traded in the Great Lakes for the Rocky Mountains four years ago when he moved to Lyons to grow vegetables and flowers at the Lyons Farmette, where he has continued to work since. He has spent the winters traveling - growing vegetables and harvesting coconuts on the Big Island in Hawaii, raising heritage breed pigs in Italy, as well as raising sheep and growing veggies is Southern and Central Chile. He enjoys tinkering with irrigation designs, woodworking and carpentry projects, and being outside all day long. He is excited to put down some more permanent roots in Lyons, and become a more active part of the tight-knit community - offering pasture raised, sustainable and regenerative pork, lamb, chicken and eggs to his friends and neighbors.
