Frost Ranch History
Frost Livestock has a rich family history that dates back to 1958. Now in their fourth generation of ranching, the Frost family continues to operate with a focus on local food and sustainability.
Jon Wallace Frost II began building a ranch and home in the Fountain Valley strong enough to support a family of 11. Primarily focused on cattle and hay production, the Fountain Creek Ranch gave rise to multiple generations of agriculturalists. Jay and Sam Frost now operate Frost Livestock with a commitment to sustainable and regenerative practices and a hand in environmental conservation.
We take pride in growing delicious, healthy, and sustainable food—including greens, beets, onions, potatoes, beans, leeks, chile, and grass fed/grass-finished lamb and beef. We are a fourth-generation farm and ranch, with deep roots in local farming and ranching traditions and with lasting commitments to the future of agriculture in Colorado.
In addition to ranching and farming, the Frosts have developed a hunting club, the Frost Ranch Sportsmen Club. The club is dedicated to offering hunting opportunities to members with an understanding for agriculture and sustainable game management. Utilizing the Frost family home, the Big House, members can enjoy a comfortable, rustic stay at the ranch while sharing memories with family and friends.
In order to continue ranching and farming, the Frost family has opened its doors to the Big House, a 6 bedroom, 5 bathroom ranch house. The house sits as the focal point for events of various sizes and overnight stays. In partnership with organizations like A Grazing Life, the Frost family intends to remain in agriculture and serve as humble land managers dedicated to holistic sustainability.
Grass Fed Meats
Our cattle and sheep graze throughout the ranch – on the upland, non-irrigated pastures as well as on the rich, grass-meadows along Fountain Creek. Calving and lambing season begins in late winter with babies coming through early spring. May and June find us not only planting and irrigating the fields, but also branding our calves and helping out with brandings at neighboring ranches. Ranching traditions go deep, and branding season is a great time for neighbors to work together. We take pride in long-held ranching traditions, working horseback and dragging to the fire. Established hands keep the work going, but there’s a new generation of ranchers coming along, too; children and grandchildren get to join in and learn the basics. We’re committed to the future of agriculture and see it in the next generation.
Produce & Honey
We start our vegetables from healthy seed and furnish delicious produce from strong soils, delivering a quality product to our community. Our honeybees are managed by one of our partners, Lockhart Honey Farms. The bees have access to alfalfa, squash blossoms, Russian olive trees and various wildflowers across the ranch, producing a uniquely sweet honey that goes with just about everything.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our free-range hens are a mix of high-production, brown egg-layers. They forage year-round, and in the summer months get carrot and beet tops leftover from harvest. They are especially fond of sweet treats like melons and tomatoes!
